The RGM Inbox February 2020

February 14, 2020 by David Vousden in Americana, Folk, New Single, News, Pop, singer-songwriter, Tour Dates, Video

It’s time once again to delve into the murky depths of the RGM inbox. The first edition of this new feature was surprisingly well received so we’re back with part two. Please join us as we share a quartet of impressive releases that reinforce the theory that there’s plenty of great music if you know where to look.

L.A. based singer-songwriter Emily Zuzik recently released ‘Trouble’ the first single from her upcoming new album ‘Torch and Trouble’ co-produced by Ted Russell Kamp (Tanya Tucker etc) which is due in May 2020. Emily has been touring and releasing material independently for fifteen years and ‘Trouble’ with its Sheryl Crow vibe bodes well for the upcoming album. Check out the fantastically fun video for the single which features Emily Zuzik singer-songwriter and domestic goddess.

Archie Faulks.jpg

Archie Faulks has been steadily building his profile with a series of releases that have gained him over four million Spotify streams. The London based singer-songwriter enters 2020 with a highly impressive new EP ‘Longing In London’ which is released today (February 14th) via Cartoon Records. Archie will support the release with UK dates including London’s The Islington on March 3rd.

“With a thoughtful approach to production and a voice that moves effortlessly between a warm John Mayerish baritone to a soaring Chris Martin falsetto, Archie Faulks follows up his 2019 release Wonderful (and yes, it was) with a new EP Longing In London. Driven, but by no means hemmed in by Faulk’s deft acoustic guitar, these songs, with their gloriously expansive arrangements, will appeal to anyone who likes their singer songwriters to be on the slick and soulful side of things. ”

Next up we find ourselves deep in the Scandinavian forests where we find James Auger the man behind A Choir Of Ghosts. James has been putting together something rather special up there in Northern Sweden if latest single ‘Sinner In Rapture’ is anything to go by. Finger picked guitars give way to pounding drums and massed vocals all drenched in an orchestral wash as James takes a serious look at the state of the world or as James puts it “This song is the end of the world, the end of everything we know”. The debut A Choir Of Ghosts album ‘An Ounce of Gold’ is set for release in the Spring of 2020 via Greywood Records.

Last but not least we take a short detour to the North West coast of Norway where we find Magnolia Red who recently released their ‘Ancient River’ album to stream and on vinyl. A classy slab of folky Americana with strong vocals and some lovely guitar work ‘Ancient River’ was recorded at Ocean Sound Recordings on the small island Giske outside Aalesund, Norway and is well worth your time. Check out the epic, cinematic grandeur of the title track:

If you got this far then many thanks for checking out the RGM inbox. We’ll be back very soon with more great music in a variety of genres from all parts of the globe.
