The RGM Inbox: January 2022

January 10, 2022 by David Vousden in Ambient, Electronica, Hard Rock, Metal, Video, Sludge, Alternative Rock, Experimental, Post-Rock

Welcome to 2022 at Red Guitar Music. Updates have been a little sketchy recently at RGM as real life and the demands of having a day job in retail and/or family stuff tend to get in the way a little during the season of goodwill to all men. Hopefully, as we ease into the new year, we’ll be able to push on, shining a light on more great music, which was the plan back in 2014 and remains the plan in 2022. Today’s selection features impressive new musical offerings from Norway (Pjusk), the USA (KYOTY and Young Mountain) and, from the UK, Gilmore Trail. Enjoy.

Lettuce set to 'Elevate' on new album due 14th June 2019

April 29, 2019 by David Vousden in Jazz, News, Soul, Funk, Ambient

Fresh from an extended Easter break we’ve returned to find the RGM inbox groaning under the weight of cool music. With literally hundreds of emails to consider where do we start? Lettuce are an acclaimed US act originally formed at the Berklee College of Music in Boston back in 1992. ‘Elevate’ is their sixth studio album set for release 14th June 2019 via Regime Inc / Membran. The first taster from the record ‘Krewe’ is very cool and a great funky way to start the week. This looks like the tip of the iceberg for Lettuce as the guys aren’t bound by genre classifications so we can expect some cool grooves when the record drops. More about Lettuce and a link to ‘Krewe’ follows:

RGM presents The Maple Leaf Roundup #1

June 21, 2018 by Rich Barnard in Acoustic, Alternative Rock, Americana, New Single, News, singer-songwriter, Showcase, Folk, Ambient

Arts funding for music in Canada means that there is a very healthy scene for up-and-coming acts.  Lots of these artists reach out across the water and we’re always pleased to find their little musical messages-in-bottles washing up on the beaches of RGM Island.  There’s something new and exciting there almost every day, little gems glinting on the sand as we walk the dogs along the shore.  Sadly, we’re so busy writing daft metaphors we don’t have time to cover everything we’d like to in depth, so we’ve assembled a little roundup of the very best Canadian things that have come to our attention in the last couple of weeks.  Keep your eyes and ears on the names and remember you (probably) heard about them first at Red Guitar.

Trees Of Eternity will mark The Hour Of The Nightingale November 11th

August 10, 2016 by David Vousden in Doom Metal, Ambient, Melancholia

Atmospheric doom-metal act Trees Of Eternity have released a video for 'Broken Mirror' from their upcoming 'Hour Of The Nightingale' album due November 11th on Svart (home of RGM fave Mikko Joensuu). The track features South African born singer Aleah Stanbridge who sadly passed away earlier this year. Something a little different here at Red Guitar Music but very much worthy of your time.

Aukai aka ambient acoustic soundscape artist Markus Sieber will release his self-titled debut album on June 3rd, 2016. The two tracks released so far to promote the album really are quite beautiful pieces of music that feature the Ronroco a stringed mandolin like instrument that originated in the Andean regions of South America.
