Maverick Festival 2017 - First Names Announced

The first names have been announced for the 10th Anniversary of the Maverick Festival with Sam Baker and Police Dog Hogan just two of the many acts set to join in the celebrations. The dates for this year are 30th June - 2nd July at Easton Farm Park in picturesque Suffolk. Full ticket details, more about the Maverick Festival and the acts announced follows:

Terra Lightfoot - I'll Be Home For Christmas video

Cambridge Folk Festival expands city-wide with City Roots February 2017

In February of 2017 the Cambridge Folk Festival will expand throughout the city with a new initiative that will see 'City Roots' bring folk and roots artists to a range of venues in the city. As is usual with Cambridge Folk Festival the artists listed to appear are an ecletic bunch that includes Salif Keita and Transatlantic Sessions featuring Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas and a host of impressive players. Gitta De Ridder announces new album and London album launch show

Born in the Netherlands and now based in London singer-songwriter Gitta De Ridder has announced the release of her new album 'Feathers' on September 21st. To promote the release there will be a London album launch show at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston on October 10th. Wildwood Kin should need no introduction to readers of Red Guitar Music as we recently featured the Exeter trio and their upcoming contribution to the new Seth Lakeman album and tour. Darlingside to release 'Birds Say' in UK July 15th

July 15th will see a very welcome UK release for 'Birds Say' by Darlingside via Thirty Tigers. The quartet have been compared to The Byrds, Fleet Foxes, Simon & Garfunkel and CSN&Y. The guys are also visiting the UK for a short tour that includes a show at the Cambridge Folk Festival on July 30th. Ruth Theodore new single and London date

Ruth Theodore will celebrate the release of ‘You Can’t Help Who You Love’ with a launch show for the single at The Green Note, Camden on June 8th. The single will be officially released June 10th on the Aveline label and is the first track from her new album ‘Cactacus’ which is due September 2016. Ruth recorded the album in Oregon, USA with producer Todd Sickafoose best known for his work with Anais Mitchell and Ani Difranco.

Manchester, UK singer-songwriter Jon Kenzie will release his third album on July 1st via the respected German Membran label. Red Guitar Music was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the CD this week and our first impressions are that 'From Wanderlust' Features a terrific mix of acoustic folk and more bluesy songs and sounds like a keeper. Billy Bragg & Joe Henry will shine a light 23rd Sept, 2016

Billy Bragg & Joe Henry reunited to record a set of songs that related to the American railroad. They decided the ideal way to record the songs was to board the famed Texas Eagle Amtrak service for a trip across the USA recording tracks along the way. The result is 'Shine A Light' Field Recordings From The Great American Railroad. The album will be released September 23rd, 2016 on the Cooking Vinyl label and includes songs originally recorded by Lead Belly, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and Glen Campbell.

Aukai to release debut album June 3rd 2016

Aukai aka ambient acoustic soundscape artist Markus Sieber will release his self-titled debut album on June 3rd, 2016. The two tracks released so far to promote the album really are quite beautiful pieces of music that feature the Ronroco a stringed mandolin like instrument that originated in the Andean regions of South America.
